Fitting the correct fuseFor all your electrical appliances, make sure they are fitted with a fuse of the correct rating. Fuses are designed to 'blow' in the event of a fault and therefore protect the appliance from damage. By law all appliances must come with a fitted plug and therefore should have the correct fuse already attached but if in doubt, the following guide may help.
Never use a fuse of a higher rating than is necessary. Check the appliance rating plate (usually found on the rear or underside of the appliance) or the specification/manufacturer's instructions book to ascertain the wattage of the appliance and fit the correct fuse as follows: 3 Amp fuse for appliances up to 700 Watts
- 5 Amp fuse for appliances between 700 and 1000 Watts
- 13 Amp fuse for appliances over 1000 Watts
